Does Epitalon help with telomerase activation?

D
Grade Dno human evidenceCell culture only · effect size: not measurable
Short answerNo human evidence. As of 2 September 2026, only cell culture only exist for Epitalon for telomerase activation. Telomerase activity and telomere lengthening reported in cultured human fibroblasts. Never measured in a living person.

What the studies show

Telomerase activity and telomere lengthening reported in cultured human fibroblasts. Never measured in a living person.

Animal studies, cell studies, or anecdotes only. This is where almost every viral peptide sits. Promising and proven are different words for a reason.

In context

Epitalon is a synthetic four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) developed in St Petersburg in the 1980s and promoted for longevity on the basis of telomerase activation in cell culture and lifespan effects in mice. The human evidence comes from one research group, is uncontrolled, and much of it used Epithalamin — a pineal-gland extract — rather than the synthetic peptide sold under the name. It is not approved anywhere.

Epitalon is not approved. Legal status differs by country — see the regulation section or the jurisdiction pages.

Questions

Is Epitalon proven to help with telomerase activation?
No. There is no human evidence for it (Cell culture only); the claim rests on animal or cell studies and LYO grades it D.
What studies are behind the grade?
Telomerase activity and telomere lengthening reported in cultured human fibroblasts. Never measured in a living person.
Is Epitalon approved for this?
No. Epitalon is not approved; it is not an approved medicine for any indication in the jurisdictions LYO covers.
