Bioavailability

In one lineThe fraction of a dose that reaches the bloodstream.

Definition

The fraction of a dose that reaches the circulation intact. Swallowed peptides are mostly digested, so oral bioavailability is close to zero for nearly all of them; oral semaglutide manages around 1% with an absorption enhancer. Claims for peptide capsules, sprays and creams stand or fall on this number.
