Definition
The preparation of a medicine by a pharmacy for a named patient, outside the approved-product system. In the United States, section 503A pharmacies and 503B outsourcing facilities may compound only from substances the FDA allows; most research-market peptides were barred in 2023, and a dozen were sent back for review in 2026. Compounded is not a synonym for approved: no regulator checked the product.
